    Abstract
    Diabetes mellitus is among the leading preventable and modifiable non communicable diseases It is responsible for an increased mortality rate with it being a leading cause of cardiovascular disease including HTN and ischemic heart disease. Its comorbidity with HTN has been on the rise recently with studies showing the risk of developing HTN being twice as much in diabetics than the general population. The aim of the study was to determine the factors that contributed to the development of HTN in diabetic patients at Kisumu County Hospital. Specific objectives of the study were to determine: the lifestyle factors, socio economic factors and glycemic factors that contributed to development of HTN in diabetic patient. A descriptive cross sectional study design was used in survey, data collection and analysis. A random sampling technique was used to select 76 participant for the study who were interviewed using semi structured questionaires. Qualitative interviews was used to explore the lifestyle ,socio economic factors and the glycemic factors of the participants .The data collected was analyzed and integrated using mathematical analysis. Data was presented in tables, frequencies, charts and graphs.
